Aruba Poker Classic
June 10, 2007
I just returned from Aruba on a scout trip for the UB/ AP Aruba Poker Classic. I had always wanted to go to the to Aruba as I had heard many great things the island. Jack McClelland had always run the event but I was happy to get the invitation to be the 2007 Tournament Director.
We are planning to have about 500 players down there for the 2007 event and there are a few exciting changes that are going to take place this year including more one table SNG's, 90 minute levels in the main event, and 6 handed tables when the tournament gets down to 36 players. I also think that this is the best staff of dealers ever assembled for a major poker tournament.
My goal is for the Aruba tournament to continue to be an annual stop for poker pros and internet players alike.
The 2007 dates are September 29- October 6th, please send me an email at Matt@SavageTournaments.com for more information.
Argosy Casino
June 01, 2007
I was invited to host a tournament at the Argosy Casino in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Now I had never heard of this casino or Lawrenceburg for that matter but it is between Louisville and Cincinnati and is a very busy casino. I was very impressed with their business and the great staff in the poker room and marketing department and despite the fact that I knew very little about the area I already look forward to a return visit. The hotel was small and had only dial up internet in the rooms but despite that and the no dry cleaning service was more than adequate accommodations.
They treated my wife and I like kings and queens from the moment we stepped of the plane until we got back on four days later. The tournament was a $100,000 freeroll for their previous months tournament winners and those players were treated to a free seminar and Q and A given by me at the end of the first day of play. The players asked great questions and the seminar was very well attended. I always enjoy these trips the most when I can meet new people and poker players.
The Argosy poker room and marketing team plans on having more promotions and hopefully a major tournament in the near future and when they do I hope Savage Tournaments can be a part of the action.
