November 06, 2006
The Second annual Vince Neil Charity Poker Tournament started with 126 players and raised over $100,000 for the TJ Martell Foundation. The event was held at the Hard Rock Hotel in the Joint which is great place to hold an event if you like a lively atmosphere and music. Vince Neil is the lead singer of Motley Crue and the host of the event. The event was won by Las Vegas local Adam Peterson who took home the $20,000 Grand Prize.
Poker Dome Show #24
November 04, 2006
Tonights show was an interesting one due to the fact that most of the players knew what they were doing. Winner Bruce Spencer played a solid aggressive game. Of course I was only watching from the floor and had no knowledge of their hole cards. We'll have to tune in tomorrow night (Sunday-My Birthday) on FSN to see that.
Poker Dome Dinner
November 03, 2006
Every Friday night for the last few months I have attended the Poker Dome dinners at Caesers Palace. The purpose of my participation is to have the six players draw for seats, discuss the structure, and rules for the Poker Dome shows that take place on Saturday nights. Tonight's discussion with the players focused on a specific rule that I currently use which is show one of you hole cards and you must show both. It is a rule that I have been on the fence about for some time. Mike O'Malley wrote an article about it in CardPlayer and the players at dinner felt that showing one card was part of the strategy of the game. The opposing view is that just showing one card is used to needle other players and it actually has a negative affect when new players are playing in a tournament. Daniel Negreanu feels that you should be able to show your cards at any time and not receive a penalty. It is a hot topic that comes up from time to time and I am sure it will be discussed at the upcoming TDA meeting. If you would like to attend the meeting please contact the wwwPokerTDA.com site.
VH1 Classic Rock and Roll Tournament
November 02, 2006
Today I was the Tournament Director/ Host for the VH1 Celebrity Rock and Roll Poker Tournament. It actually Started last night when we had a walk through at the Flamingo Hotel and then had dinner with the players. This was a one table event with 8 players and this is how the seat draw went down
Seat 1 Rob Cross representing UB.TV
Seat 2 Dusty Hill ZZ top
Seat 3 Sully Erna Lead Singer Godsmack
Seat 4 Scott Ian of Anthrax
Seat 5 Ian Hamilton representing UB.TV
Seat 6 Vinnie Paul of Pantera and big vin records
Seat 7 Ace Frehley lead guitar Kiss
Seat 8 Steve Thomas represnting the flamingo
I was most excited to meet Dusty Hill and Sully Erna who I had heard was a pretty good poker player as evident by his WSOP main event cash. Maryann and I recently went to see Godsmack in concert just a few weeks ago at the Hard Rock. Ace Frehly is a legend of R and R and was a real cool guy as well. Dusty turned out to be a decent player himself. I was happy to see all of the players taking the event so seriously as they were playing for $50,000 that was split amongst their charities. I wont get into all the details of the show as I hope you will watch but it got down to heads up between the favorite (Sully) and Scott Ian of Anthrax and the chip count was $66,000 to $14,000 in favor of Sully. He had Scott all in drawing to a gutshot straight or a spade and the spade got there. Sully then went card dead and Scott took it down.
Final Standings
1st Scott Ian $25,000
2nd Sully Erna $10,000
3rd Steve Thomas $5,000
4th Ace Frehly $3,000
5th Ian Hamilton $2,000
6th Rob Cross $2,000
7th Dusty Hill $2,000
8th Vinnie Paul $1,000
Tournament Directors Association
November 01, 2006
The TDA is something that I am very proud of, it has been accepted around the globe in most major tournaments including the WSOP and WPT events. The four founders (Myself, Linda Johnson, Jan Fisher, and Dave Lamb) answer questions from dealers, floormen, and Tournament Directors on a daily basis and have all enjoyed the relationships that we have created since its inception. The TDA website has been evolving and new members are signed up almost every day. If you are interested in joining or have a tournament rule question, please go to www.PokerTDA.com.
